Technology Should Remove Barriers, Not Create Them

At 4YFN, Whispp CEO Joris Castermans joined a panel on purpose-driven innovation, sharing how startups like Whispp can create real-world impact. His key message? Technology should break down communication barriers—not build new ones. Discover how Whispp is advancing speech accessibility with real-time voice conversion for people with speech disorders.

At this year’s 4YFN (4 Years From Now) conference in Barcelona, Whispp CEO Joris Castermans took the stage during the “Purpose-Driven Innovation Showcase” panel. Joined by fellow impact-driven founders Maria Masó and Mejda Khaled, Joris discussed what it takes to transform bold ideas into meaningful change—and why staying true to your mission matters more than ever.

A central theme of the conversation? Innovation must serve the people who need it most.

Too often, new technologies overlook real-world challenges. For people with speech disabilities, everyday interactions—ordering at a café, joining a work meeting, or making a simple phone call—can become overwhelming hurdles. In an age where AI and voice technology are rapidly advancing, these barriers simply shouldn’t exist.

That’s where Whispp comes in.

We’re building real-time voice conversion technology that turns whispered or affected speech into a clear and natural voice—empowering users to communicate more freely and confidently. As Joris highlighted during the panel, technology should be an equalizer, not a gatekeeper.

“At Whispp, we believe speech accessibility is not a luxury—it’s a necessity,” said Joris. “Just like our friends at Cure Bionics, who are reimagining prosthetics to be lightweight, customizable, and affordable, we’re making sure that our innovation starts with the real needs of people.”

Scaling purpose-driven tech is not without challenges. As Joris shared, one key to success lies in working with the right investors and partners—those who understand that meaningful impact and financial sustainability can go hand in hand.
